VeilRunner: Arcane Frontiers

Company: Machine Zone

Platform: Mobile

Role: Senior UI/UX Designer

Veilrunner: Arcane Frontiers is an online, role-playing game (RPG) that combines strategy and MMO elements. The game features towns (Hubs) where players interact with NPCs, take on jobs, and access town functions. Surrounding areas (Veils) offer hunting, gathering, events, and quests tied to each town. Movement is streamlined with waypoints for easy navigation, especially for mobile play. Combat is real-time, allowing players to customize their combat deck, deploy Veilrunners, and use strategic abilities in battles.

Responsibilities: Designed wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and final UI assets for all game features.

Design Process

I collaborated closely with the Design Lead on all of the features for Veilrunner. He would create rough wireframe sketches and outline gameplay concepts, which he would then hand off to me. From there, I would develop user flows and low-fidelity wireframes for the product team to review and provide feedback. Once the wireframes were approved, I would create high-fidelity UI mockups and work closely with the Art team to produce the necessary assets. After finalizing the UI, I would prepare information sheets and tear sheets for handoff to the UI Development and Engineering teams for implementation. Throughout the process, we held regular team check-ins and playtests to ensure the feature remained aligned with the design vision.

The Figma page below includes wireframes, user flows, feature details, and a sample asset list I created for the Mission Board feature.
